Hi, my name is Bob 👋 #
I am a Senior Security Analyst, and the Fault Injection domain owner, at Keysight Device Security Testing (formerly Riscure) in Delft, the Netherlands. In this role, I’m responsible for keeping laboratory knowledge up-to-date, developing new analysis tools and techniques, and training and coaching new security analysts.
My expertise lies in executing advanced attacks such as Statistical Fault Attacks (SFA, SIFA, SEFA, SHFA) using advanced fault injection mediums (Laser, BBI, EM), targeting cryptographic implementations. I have experience with formal evaluations like EMVCo and Common Criteria, and I’m an expert in SESIP and PSA evaluations.
Background #
I hold a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where I also completed the Embedded Systems minor. Before that, I trained as a Precision Mechanic (Research Instrument Maker) at ROC van Amsterdam, giving me hands-on experience with precision mechanics including 5-axis CNC milling, CNC turning, laser cutting, water-jet cutting, and 3D printing.
Publications & Presentations #
I co-authored a paper on improving Statistical Ineffective Fault Attacks, published at COSADE 2024:
Ege, B., Swinkels, B., Toprakhisar, D., Mandala, P.K. (2024). Practical Improvements to Statistical Ineffective Fault Attacks. In: Wacquez, R., Homma, N. (eds) Constructive Side-Channel Analysis and Secure Design. COSADE 2024. Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 14595. Springer, Cham. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-031-57543-3_4
I’ve also presented at American Express (2025) on “Statistical Fault Attacks in Practice” and given a workshop on “FI/SCA From Theory to Practice” at the University of Amsterdam (2023).
This Site #
I’ll use this site primarily to write about things that sparked my interest, share projects I’ve worked on, and document problems I solved.
Hobbies and Interests #
When I have free time I like to hit the climbing gym with friends to go bouldering. For me, bouldering is the perfect way to be physically challenged while completely clearing my mind. I enjoy the social aspect with friends, but especially the thrill of completing a route that initially seemed impossible.
I’m also passionate about specialty coffee, what started with a simple cup has grown into a hobby where I’m exploring new flavors, experimenting with variables like grind size and temperature to get the best out of freshly roasted beans from local roasters.
Beyond that, I’m interested in DevOps and Machine Learning and enjoy trying new technologies.
